What does PPF cost?

Vehicle class, coverage and film tier are the three things that move the price. Set them below for a modelled UK range, built from installer quotes rather than a made-up average.

The reference car, around 20 square metres. Published installer prices are usually quoted for exactly this, so it sits at the baseline.

Around 4 to 6 square metres of film, one day to fit. The standard UK protection package for road cars.

7–10 year warranty, self-healing top coat, the UK industry default for prestige cars.

Typical UK price range
Low
£1,250
Entry spec, simplest version of this job. Installers publish “from” prices, and this is where they start.
Median
£1,500
The middle of what installers publish for this coverage. Half quote below, half above.
High
£2,100
Complex panels, awkward paint, or a shop at the top of the market.
How to read this. Low and median are real prices UK installers publish for this coverage, and they quote them against a hatchback in mid-tier film. Your body style and film tier scale all three from there. The high is the median widened by the spread this kind of job runs to. Published prices are nearly always “from” prices, so treat the low as a floor rather than a likely quote. Your quote still depends on vehicle complexity, paint condition and prep (paint correction is often added at £300-£1,000).

Anchored to 93 published prices from 52 UK installers in this directory (typically their “from” price, so the bottom of the range is the simplest car). Only 144 of 453 listed installers publish any price at all; the rest quote per car.

What moves the price

The three knobs the calculator turns, with the reasoning.

What the vehicle does to the number

Vehicle class here means body style, because the price follows how many square metres of film the car takes and how hard the panels are to wrap. A hatchback (Golf, Focus, A3) is the baseline at roughly 20 square metres for full coverage, and it is the car installers quote their published prices against. A city car takes around 16 square metres and costs less. A saloon or estate takes around 22. An SUV or 4x4 is the largest mainstream body at around 27 square metres. Coupes and sports cars use about the same film as a hatchback but take longer, because of deeper curves and tighter bumper returns. Supercars are not the biggest cars, they are the hardest: carbon panels, deep bonnet curvature and bespoke patterns slow the fit well beyond what area alone would suggest. Electric cars are not a separate class, since a Model 3 is a saloon and a Model Y is an SUV.

Coverage

Coverage drives the biggest single swing in price because it dictates how many square metres of film go on the car. Track Pack covers around 2 to 3 square metres of high-impact zones in half a day. Front End, the UK road-car default, uses around 4 to 6 square metres over one day. Partial adds roof and door edges for around 8 to 10 square metres in one to two days. Full Body PPF covers every painted panel, typically 18 to 22 square metres, and takes three to five days. Matt and stealth full body is the same area, but matt film costs more per roll and shows fitting errors faster, so labour goes up too.

Film tier

Value films (Hexis, KPMF, value 3M) come with a shorter 5-year warranty and no self-healing top coat — fine for daily commute protection. Mid films (LLumar, SunTek, Pro Films) carry a 7–10 year warranty plus the self-healing top coat that's become the UK industry default for prestige cars. Premium films (XPEL Ultimate, STEK DYNOshield) get a 10-year warranty, self-healing top coat and a hydrophobic finish — the spec most supercar buyers go for.
