Is 3M Scotchgard PPF the same as a dealership paint protection pack?

Not necessarily. Ask the dealer which 3M product they are fitting and for the warranty paperwork. 3M UK gives Scotchgard Paint Protection Film Pro Series a 10-year warranty, and Series 100 Gloss a 7-year warranty. If the paperwork does not name the product, ask before you sign.

Does 3M Scotchgard PPF self-heal?

Yes. 3M says the self-healing technology in Scotchgard Paint Protection Film Pro Series 200 removes minor scratches or marks when heat is applied to the film surface.

The original PPF — 3M invented the category for military helicopter blades. In the UK, Pro Series 200 still lives mostly through dealership protection packs and traditional bodyshops rather than specialist installers.

The warranty, honestly

10-year warranty, but the claim process runs through 3M Authorised Installers. Dealership 'paint protection packs' often use 3M film but with a 5-year warranty — not the same thing.

How to verify an installer

3M Authorised Installer status is the credible tier. Be wary of 'comes with 3M PPF' upsells at the dealership — confirm which 3M product and which warranty before signing.

The 3M read

What the brand actually is, what it makes, where it sits in the UK, and which buyer it suits.

3M is an American materials company that sells paint protection film under the Scotchgard name. 3M says its Pro Series 200 film is professionally installed by 3M authorised installers. In the UK, 3M publishes warranty terms for its Pro Series and Series 100 films.

Films

The films, broken down

UK market position

Where 3M sits in the UK

3M's EMEA warranty document says the paint protection film warranty is personal to the original purchaser and is not transferable, which matters if you plan to sell the car. Ask the installer to confirm they are authorised for 3M paint protection film, which 3M film they are quoting, and for the warranty paperwork. Our PPF cost guide uses prices published by UK installers; get two or three quotes for your car.

Who picks it

Who should pick 3M

3M suits buyers who want a well-known brand with a 10-year warranty on its Pro Series film and plan to keep the car, since the EMEA warranty does not transfer. Matte Pro Series suits owners who want a satin look. Ask whether paint correction is included or quoted separately, and which panels the quote covers.
