Window Tinting listings verified methodology
Premium ceramic window film — UV/IR rejection, glare reduction, and aesthetic. Most PPF installers offer it as an add-on.
What the service actually is, what's in scope, what it costs in the UK, and which buyer it suits.
Window tinting applies a dyed, metallised or ceramic film to the inside face of the glass to cut UV, infrared heat and glare. On a PPF install it covers the rear side windows, rear screen and — where the law allows — a sun strip on the windscreen. Front side windows must legally pass 70% VLT in the UK, so most installs leave them factory. Buyer profile: owners who want privacy, cabin temperature control, interior preservation, or a finished aesthetic to match a fresh PPF or paint correction.
A standard UK ceramic tint covers the two rear door windows, the two rear quarter glasses (where fitted) and the rear screen. Saloons and coupes get a single-piece or two-piece rear screen depending on curvature. Panoramic and full glass roofs are usually quoted separately — they need a high-IR-rejection film to be worth it. A windscreen sun strip is optional and must sit above the swept area. Front door glass is left clear by default to stay road-legal; some installers offer a near-clear ceramic (70%+ VLT) on the fronts for IR rejection without changing appearance. Prep includes a full glass decontamination, deep clean of the rubber seals, removal of any factory dot-matrix contamination at the edges, and computer-cut patterns so film tucks neatly to the seal rather than ending at a visible edge. Defroster lines on heated rear screens are preserved. Cure time is typically 3-7 days before windows can be lowered.
Daily hatch / saloon rear set: £200-320. Estate or SUV rear set with larger rear screen: £280-450. Prestige saloon (5 Series, E-Class, A6) full rear set in premium ceramic: £350-550. Supercar or coupe with compound-curved rear screen (911, F-Type, AMG GT): £450-700. Panoramic roof tint adds £180-350 depending on size and whether the glass is one piece or split. Near-clear ceramic on the front doors (70%+ VLT, IR rejection only): add £120-220. Windscreen sun strip: £60-120. Cheaper dyed films sit at the bottom of these ranges and fade purple within 2-3 years; nano-ceramic films from Llumar, 3M Crystalline, XPEL XR or STEK sit at the top and hold colour for the life of the car.
Most buyers add tint at the same time as PPF or paint correction so the car leaves the unit finished. Common profiles: family SUV owners wanting rear-seat sun and privacy, prestige saloon drivers wanting a cleaner factory-style look, supercar owners protecting leather and Alcantara from UV bleaching, and anyone running a black or dark-spec car who wants the glass to match. Ownership horizon doesn't matter much — quality ceramic outlasts the car.
