Hyundai N PPF UK Guide: i20 N, i30 N, Kona N, Ioniq 5 N

Hyundai N owners use their cars. B-road blasts at the weekend, track days at Cadwell and Donington, motorway commutes during the week. Factory paint sits at 115-135 microns — thinner than the German rivals N buyers cross-shop. Performance Blue, the most-specced N colour, shows stone chips as white pinpricks within months. This guide walks UK i20 N, i30 N, i30 N Fastback, Kona N and Ioniq 5 N owners through model-specific PPF spec, realistic 2026 UK prices, brand choice between SunTek and XPEL Ultimate Plus, and the warranty position on N-Performance Approved service.

01

Why Hyundai N cars need PPF

Hyundai factory paint sits at 115-135 microns. Thinner than the German rivals N owners cross-shop against. Performance Blue is the most-specced N colour and the metallic finish shows stone chips as white pinpricks within months. Pearl White hides chips but picks up swirl marks and water spots. Phantom Black shows every wash defect and chips read as silver flecks. N cars get used. B-road blasts at the weekend, track days at Cadwell and Donington, motorway commutes during the week. The bonnet leading edge, front bumper and A-pillars take the worst of it. PPF is preventative work — fit it before the chips arrive, not after. For the basics on how the film works, see what is PPF.

02

i30 N and i30 N Fastback

The five-door hatch and the Fastback estate are daily-then-track machines. Front bumper, bonnet leading edge and headlights take motorway stone strikes head-on. The Fastback's longer boot lip suffers from loading damage — shopping, dog crates, bike kit. Front-end PPF runs £800-1,200. That covers front bumper, full bonnet, both wings, headlights and mirror caps. Add door cups for £80-120. Performance Pack owners running track days should add A-pillars, roof leading edge and sill kick panels. The track pack PPF guide covers the full spec — gravel trap excursions at Donington tear standard front-end coverage. Full-body sits at £2,200-3,000 depending on film brand. Worth it on Performance Blue where resale on a clean car holds £2,000-3,000 above a chipped equivalent at 60,000 miles.

03

i20 N: small car, same chip risk

The i20 N is the urban N. Lighter, lower bonnet, shorter overhangs. Lives on B-roads and city streets. Same Performance Blue paint, same Pirelli P Zeros throwing stones at the rear arches. Same chip risk as the i30 N — sometimes worse because the lower bonnet sits in the strike zone of larger vehicles' tyre fling. Front-end PPF: £700-1,100. Full-body: £2,000-2,800. The i20 N is becoming a future-classic hot hatch. Full-body PPF on a clean low-mileage car is one of the better value resale plays in the Hyundai range. Pair with is PPF worth it UK for the resale maths.

04

Kona N: family-spec hot SUV

Kona N owners load kids, prams, dog crates and weekly shops. The rear bumper top edge and boot loading lip take repeated knocks. Door edges chip from car park dings. Rear arches catch shoe scuffs. Front-end coverage: £900-1,400. Add door cups, full rear bumper top and boot loading lip and you sit at £1,400-1,800. Full-body £2,400-3,400. The taller body sits the bonnet higher in the strike zone for stones thrown by HGV tyres on the motorway. Full bonnet wrap is non-negotiable — partial bonnet coverage on a Kona N is a false economy. Performance Blue on a Kona N picks up chips faster than the same paint on an i30 N. The flat bonnet panel and squared-off front end give stones a bigger target.

05

Ioniq 5 N: the EV halo car

Different beast. 800V architecture, 2.2-tonne kerb weight, softer EV paint, higher purchase price. Factory paint runs closer to 110 microns in places and marks easily. Full-body PPF is becoming standard among early Ioniq 5 N owners. Front-end PPF runs £1,000-1,500. Full-body in XPEL Ultimate Plus sits at £2,800-4,000. The flat panels and creased shoulder lines need an installer who has wrapped Teslas and Polestars. Seams in the wrong places look terrible on flat panels — installer experience matters more here than on a curved i20 N. The 800V charging means more charge-point visits and more risk of chip damage from charge cables dragged across the bumper. Bumper top edge PPF is worth specifying separately. EV paint warranty claims are harder to win than ICE — Hyundai assessors look closely. Keeping original paint clean under PPF protects the bodywork warranty position. For wider EV considerations see PPF for electric vehicles.

06

Performance Blue, Pearl White, Phantom Black

Performance Blue is the colour of the N range. Fine metallic flake, deep blue, looks the business. Shows chips as white pinpricks within weeks. The bonnet leading edge is the first panel to suffer. Pearl White hides chips well — they read as faint marks rather than obvious damage. But the white finish shows swirl marks, water spots and wash damage. Pair PPF on impact panels with ceramic coating on the full car for wash protection. Phantom Black is the highest-maintenance N colour. Chips show as silver flecks. Wash marks survive even careful two-bucket technique. PPF protects the bodywork but ceramic on top is essential to keep the finish wash-friendly. Sonic Silver and Cyber Grey are the easier-maintenance N colours. PPF still worth it on impact panels but full-body resale case is weaker.

07

Carbon trim and Performance Pack details

i30 N DCT Performance Pack adds minimal carbon — mirror caps and a grille surround on some specs. Ioniq 5 N gets gloss black trim around the lights and rear diffuser. PPF on carbon is gloss-only. Matt PPF over carbon dulls the weave and looks wrong. Budget £80-150 for mirror caps in gloss film. Gloss black plastic trim on the Ioniq 5 N scratches under jet wash use. PPF section coverage on the rear diffuser and light surrounds runs £150-300 and saves the trim long-term.

08

What PPF costs across the N range

UK 2026 pricing, fitted by a certified installer. Track-day adders (A-pillars, roof leading edge, sill kicks) add £400-700 across the range. Door cup and door edge PPF on top of front-end coverage runs £80-150 per pair. Full pricing breakdown and what drives the spread in the how much does PPF cost guide.

ModelFront-end PPFFull-body PPF
i20 N£700 – £1,100£2,000 – £2,800
i30 N / i30 N Fastback£800 – £1,200£2,200 – £3,000
Kona N£900 – £1,400£2,400 – £3,400
Ioniq 5 N£1,000 – £1,500£2,800 – £4,000
09

Film brand: SunTek, LLumar or XPEL

N cars are value-spec performance. SunTek Ultra Defense and LLumar Platinum carry 10-year warranties and handle daily B-road duty fine. Both sit £200-400 below XPEL Ultimate Plus on a full-body installation. Reserve XPEL Ultimate Plus for the Ioniq 5 N. The price gap shrinks as a percentage of car value and the EV paint benefits from the thicker top coat and self-healing layer. STEK DYNOshield is the gloss-enhancer option. Worth specifying on Pearl White if you want the wet-look finish. £150-300 premium over SunTek Ultra Defense. Full brand comparison and warranty terms in the XPEL vs SunTek vs STEK guide and the PPF warranty comparison.

10

Hyundai UK dealer position and warranty

Hyundai UK accepts aftermarket PPF. The 5-year unlimited mileage warranty is not affected by film installation. N-Performance Approved service centres are trained to remove PPF for bodywork inspection and repair claims. Keep the PPF installation invoice and the film material certificate. Useful for resale evidence and for any paint claim where Hyundai needs to confirm original paint condition under the film. Film can be removed cleanly at end of ownership — most quality PPF lasts 7-10 years before removal becomes worth doing. See how long does PPF last for the wear timeline.

11

Track-day and weekend B-road owners

Standard front-end PPF is not enough for track regulars at Cadwell, Donington or the Nürburgring. Stones come off the racing line at angles the road never throws. Add A-pillars, roof leading edge, full bonnet (not partial), sill kick panels and door cups. The track pack PPF guide covers the full spec sheet. Rear arch tyre-fling coverage matters more on i30 N and Ioniq 5 N — wider rear track, stickier Michelin Pilot Sport 4S compound, more stones thrown at speed. £200-400 for rear arch PPF saves repaint costs at sale time.

12

PPF vs ceramic coating for N owners

Different jobs. PPF stops physical damage — chips, scratches, swirl marks. Ceramic coating makes washing easier and adds gloss depth. The right answer on an N car is both. PPF on impact panels, ceramic on the full car. Full comparison and decision tree in the PPF vs ceramic coating UK guide. Budget £400-600 for ceramic coating on top of PPF. Lasts 3-5 years and makes Phantom Black ownership realistic.

13

Choosing a UK installer for your Hyundai N

Look for an installer with hot-hatch and EV experience. Ioniq 5 N needs someone who has wrapped flat-panel EVs — Tesla, Polestar, BMW i4 work counts. i30 N and i20 N suit any competent installer holding XPEL, SunTek or LLumar certification. Get the warranty in writing. Ask to see installs on Performance Blue — the metallic shows edge work badly when the installer cuts corners. Confirm bay temperature and dust control. Cheap garage-floor installs trap contamination under the film. Full vetting checklist and red flags in the how to choose PPF installer guide. For the sister marque, see the Genesis PPF UK guide — Hyundai's luxury arm shares paint suppliers but the resale maths differ.

Reader questions

Reader questions, answered straight.

Q01

How much does PPF cost for a Hyundai i30 N in the UK?

Front-end coverage runs £800-1,200. Full-body sits at £2,200-3,000 depending on film brand and installer. SunTek Ultra Defense at the lower end, XPEL Ultimate Plus at the upper end.

Q02

Does Performance Blue need PPF more than other N colours?

Yes. Performance Blue is the most-specced N colour and the metallic shows stone chips fast. Front-bumper and bonnet leading edge are the priority panels.

Q03

Will PPF affect my Hyundai warranty or N-Performance dealer service?

No. Hyundai UK accepts PPF and N-Performance Approved service centres are trained to work around it. Removal before bodywork claims is standard.

Q04

Is XPEL Ultimate Plus overkill on an i20 N?

On an i20 N daily, SunTek Ultra Defense or LLumar Platinum handles the job at a lower price. XPEL Ultimate Plus makes more sense on an Ioniq 5 N where paint is softer and resale is higher.

Q05

Should I PPF the Ioniq 5 N before delivery miles?

Ideally yes. EV paint on the Ioniq 5 N is softer than ICE N cars and full-body PPF on a fresh car avoids decontamination costs and existing chip repair.

Q06

Do I need PPF on the rear arches of a Kona N?

Worth it if you load kids, prams or dogs. Rear arches and boot loading lip take repeated knocks on family-spec SUVs and the chips show on Performance Blue.
