Hand-written context from our editors. Updated quarterly.
Hull's PPF market is small. The city is geographically isolated — the East Riding peninsula is not on the way to anywhere — and as a result the local coverage is thinner than its population would suggest. A handful of independent specialists handle the bulk of the work, mostly out of units across the A63 corridor and out toward Beverley and Cottingham. The standard at the top end is decent, but the depth of choice is limited compared with Leeds or Sheffield.
The local client base is mostly everyday prestige — Range Rover, RS Audi, AMG saloon, BMW M-cars — with a smaller modified-car and tuned-car flow. Country money from the East Riding villages and the Yorkshire Wolds adds a layer of Defender and Discovery work. The supercar scene is small and tends to drive west to Leeds for serious work; Topaz Leeds is around ninety minutes on the M62 and pulls a steady flow of Hull and East Riding bookings.
The coastal and rural exposure is real. Hull's proximity to the Humber and the wider Yorkshire coast produces salt-laden conditions, and East Riding country routes pick up enough stone chip and gravel damage to drive demand for full-front and rocker-panel coverage. Most local briefs lean toward winter-protection specs rather than cosmetic-only kits.
Pricing is below Leeds — a full-body kit typically lands £2,800-£3,300. Lead times are usually short: one to three weeks at most installers. The trade-off is depth — if you want a specific named studio, brand certification or unusually high-spec full-body work, Leeds is ninety minutes west and is the regional default. For everyday prestige protection, the local Hull market is sufficient and is meaningfully cheaper than driving west.
What the city’s PPF scene actually looks like, where the workshops cluster, who travels in, and how to pick the right one.
Hull sits at the mouth of the Humber, a working port city with pockets of serious money in the Avenues, Newland Park and out towards Kirk Ella and Swanland. Paintwork here takes a beating from coastal salt air, motorway grit off the A63 and the daily grind of country-lane commuting. Paint protection film is increasingly the default for prestige owners who want their car to still look factory fresh after three Yorkshire winters, rather than a polish-and-pray approach that fades by year two.
Hull has a smaller specialist PPF scene than its population suggests, with roughly two to four detailers fitting film at a serious level across the city and immediate East Riding fringe. Most are concentrated in industrial units around Hessle, Melton and the Sutton Fields estate, rather than central Hull itself. The mix leans heavily towards Range Rover Sport and Velar bonnets, Audi RS and S-line full-front packages, and a good chunk of Volvo XC60 and XC90 wrappers picked up from Scandinavian ferry traffic through King George Dock. Tesla Model Y work is climbing fast. Full-body PPF is still a small slice of the order book here compared with Leeds or York, but front-end and high-impact-zone packages are now the bread and butter for the established Hull fitters.
Most Hull-based installers will comfortably cover HU postcodes plus Beverley, Cottingham, Hessle, Brough and out to Hornsea and Withernsea without a travel surcharge. Longer runs to Goole, Driffield and Bridlington are usually fine on a quoted basis. Customers in Scunthorpe and Grimsby sometimes cross the Humber Bridge for Hull fitters rather than going south, particularly for full-front and track packages. For anything west of the M62 junction with the A1(M), it tends to make more sense to look at York or Leeds specialists instead.
For a daily-driven Range Rover, Audi or Volvo XC living on Hull's salted A-roads, prioritise a fitter who does full-front packages weekly rather than as a side job to tinting or detailing. Ask to see a recent bonnet wrap edge under bright light, confirm the film brand (XPEL, SunTek or STEK), and check the warranty is the manufacturer-backed ten-year version rather than a workshop promise. A proper installer will quote in writing, show their booth, and give a realistic two-to-three-day turnaround.
